Responsible AI Policy

Last updated: June 26, 2026. Our commitment to transparent, fair, and honest use of artificial intelligence.

AI Estimates, Not Guarantees

All AI recommendations, color previews, and size suggestions are estimates to assist your decision — not guarantees of the physical product.

Colors May Vary

On-screen color rendering depends on your display calibration and camera quality. Actual product colors may differ.

Size is a Suggestion

Size recommendations are based on available data and cannot substitute for trying the physical product.

1. Overview

At Trevia Shopping, we believe that powerful AI tools come with a responsibility to be honest about what they can and cannot do. This Responsible AI Policy sets out our principles for the transparent, fair, and ethical deployment of artificial intelligence across our platform — including our product recommendation engine, AI search, and Virtual Try-On system.

2. AI Recommendations Are Estimates

Our AI recommendation engine analyses your browsing behaviour, search queries, and try-on interactions to suggest products we think you will enjoy. However:

  • Recommendations are probabilistic estimates, not curated guarantees. The AI predicts what you may like based on patterns — it cannot know your individual taste with certainty.
  • New users with limited browsing history may receive less personalised recommendations initially.
  • Affiliate commission structures do not influence the ordering of recommendations. We are committed to surfacing the most relevant products for you, not the most profitable ones for us.
  • We do not recommend products solely on the basis of demographic assumptions (e.g., gender, age, ethnicity).

3. Color Accuracy

Our Virtual Try-On applies digital color overlays for products such as jewelry and makeup. We are transparent about the limitations of color rendering:

  • Colors may varybetween the try-on preview and the actual physical product due to differences in your device's display calibration, screen brightness, color profile, and ambient lighting.
  • Camera quality and white balance settings affect how colors are captured and displayed in live try-on mode.
  • Jewelry metal tones (gold, rose gold, silver) and gemstone colors are approximated from product photography and may not perfectly replicate the real-world appearance.
  • Makeup pigment intensity in the try-on preview may appear more or less saturated than the actual product depending on your skin tone.

We advise all users to consider the try-on preview as a guide, not a precise color match.

4. Size Recommendations Are Suggestions

Where our platform provides size guidance (e.g., ring size estimations from hand detection, necklace length suggestions based on neck geometry), these are algorithmic suggestions only:

  • Size estimates are derived from approximate face/body landmark measurements detected by MediaPipe — these are not precise physical measurements.
  • Sizing systems vary between brands, countries, and product categories. Our suggestions may not account for all sizing conventions.
  • Camera angle, distance from camera, and lens distortion can affect the accuracy of size estimation from video/images.
  • We strongly recommend checking the merchant's official size guide before purchasing and using their return policy if the size does not fit.

5. AI Cannot Guarantee Perfect Fitting

Virtual Try-On is a powerful tool for visualising how a product might look on you — but it is fundamentally a 2D or 3D digital rendering on a screen:

  • Weight and texture of physical products cannot be simulated. A necklace may feel very different when worn physically compared to its appearance in a try-on preview.
  • Drape and movement of fabric, chains, or pendants cannot be accurately replicated by static overlays.
  • Fit on different body types may vary significantly from what the try-on preview shows, especially for clothing items.
  • The try-on is an augmented reality approximation, not a substitute for physically trying on a product.

Trevia Shopping accepts no liability for purchasing decisions made solely on the basis of Virtual Try-On previews.

6. Fairness & Bias Mitigation

We actively work to make our AI systems fair and inclusive:

  • We test our face detection and makeup overlay rendering across diverse skin tones, lighting conditions, and camera types to reduce performance disparities.
  • Our recommendation engine is audited periodically to identify and reduce category or demographic biases in product surfacing.
  • We do not use your camera data to infer demographic attributes (e.g., age, gender, ethnicity) for targeting or profiling purposes.

7. Continuous Improvement

We are committed to continuously improving our AI systems. We welcome feedback on AI accuracy, fairness concerns, or unexpected behaviour. Contact us at ai@treviashopping.com.
